F.A.C.E.S. Pre-K and Early Childhood

The F.A.C.E.S. Birth-Three Program offers limited services for the parents of the district’s youngest members. Special emphasis is placed on services to pregnant and parenting teens.

Services for Teen Parents

Teen-agers who are pregnant or already have a child are eligible for assistance from the F.A.C.E.S. Program. A parent educator conducts home visits and maintains close contact with these youngest parents. Services include support throughout pregnancy, encouragement and help to continue education, monitoring of parent’s needs and baby’s growth and development, and information about/referral to other services that are available in the community.

Referrals usually come through the school nurse but can also be made by anyone who lives in the school district. For information, call 692-1222.

F.A.C.E.S. Preschool for All  Pre-K Program for 3-5 Year Olds

The Edwardsville School District’s Preschool for All Pre-K Program is a grant-initiative from the Illinois State Board of Education. Children are eligible to participate based on the results of a developmental screening.

Children may attend morning (9:15-11:45) or afternoon (1:00-3:30) classes.  Blended Pre-K classes have up to 15 children with a teacher and classroom assistant.  The Highly Specialized Early Childhood class has up to 10 children with a teacher and classroom assistant. Children may also receive services from other personnel such as a speech therapist, social worker, nurse, or parent educator.

he Pre-K/EC curriculum is aligned with the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards (www.illiniosearlylearning.org). The curriculum offers a rich language and literacy component, and hands-on math and science activities and experiences. The schedule provides a balance of teacher-directed and child-directed activities, quiet and active experiences, large and small group and individual activities. Children have the time to become absorbed in learning experiences and play without interruption.

Because it is so crucial, parents are encouraged to get involved in their child’s education. Parent classes are offered throughout the school year, and families are asked to attend two Family Fun Nights each year. Parents are welcome in the classrooms as volunteers, home visits are offered to families, and parent-child fun activities are provided outside of the classroom.

Parenting is a many-faceted job with ever-changing challenges. The F.A.C.E.S. program strives to provide parents with the tools they need to meet the challenges of parenting. Whether it’s information about a certain stage of development, services offered by childcare centers and preschools, getting ready for kindergarten or finding needed social services, we are here to support families by connecting them to requested resources.
